If you’re comparing pour bar services for a wedding, company reception or backyard party, start with what your venue already provides. A usable bar and a complete supply plan may make bartender-only service a good fit. If you need the station, mixers, ice and other bar supplies arranged together, a mobile-bar package may be more practical.
The wording in a service name does not tell you everything a booking includes. Compare the staff, equipment, supplies and alcohol responsibilities in each quote. At BeeHive Mobile Bar, both our mobile-bar packages and our separate bartender-only service use a dry-hire model: you purchase the alcohol, and we provide the agreed bartending service.
Compare BeeHive’s pour bar services by what you need
We’re based in Orange County, California, and serve Southern California by arrangement. These starting prices and guest ranges help narrow your options; the proposal confirms availability, staffing, service hours, travel and the total for your event.
| Service | Starting price | Staffing and guest guidance | Service minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bartender-only service | $350 | Staffing confirmed for your event | 2 hours |
| Bronze package | $750 | 1 bartender; recommended for up to 70 guests | 3 hours |
| Silver package | $1,150 | 2 bartenders; recommended for up to 120 guests | 3 hours |
| Gold package | Custom quote | 2 or more bartenders; recommended for 120+ guests | 3 hours |
Bartender-only is a separate service, not a fourth package. The three-hour package minimum is a booking requirement; confirm the hours covered by your particular quote. Guest guidance is a starting point, not a guarantee that every menu can be served at the same pace.
For bartender-only bookings, an optional $150 mobile bar only add-on supplies the physical mobile bar. It adds no mixers, ice, coolers, drinkware, garnishes or other supplies. Your underlying bartender-only service remains the same.
Our mobile bartending prices guide gives more pricing context. For a straightforward choice, ask who will gather the supplies and prepare the serving area, not just which starting price is lower.

Who supplies the alcohol, equipment and drinks?
BeeHive provides a personalized alcohol shopping list. You arrange the purchase and delivery of the alcohol to the venue; BeeHive does not buy, sell, supply, transport or deliver it. Our guide to the difference between wet and dry hire explains that distinction.
With a package, we discuss your preferences and agree on the signature cocktails: two with Bronze, three with Silver and four with Gold. Packages include a custom printed menu. Any additional menu requests should be confirmed in the proposal.
| Item or responsibility | Bronze, Silver and Gold | Bartender-only service |
|---|---|---|
| Alcohol purchase and arrival at the venue | Client | Client |
| Bar or work surface | Included mobile bar; style depends on package | Client or venue; optional $150 mobile bar only add-on |
| Mixers, garnishes, ice and coolers | Included for the agreed menu | Client |
| Plastic glassware, napkins and straws | Included | Client |
| Standard bar tools | Included | Included |
| Custom printed menu | Included | Confirm separately |
| Setup and cleanup | Package setup and breakdown | Bartender’s work-area setup and cleanup |
| Soft drinks and water | Included in Gold; otherwise $3 per drink | Client, unless separately agreed |
Gold also includes the Refreshment Station, which is otherwise an add-on starting at $125. Confirm your alcohol-free menu and quantities rather than assuming every mocktail request is covered. Our mocktail bar ideas can help you choose drinks that suit the occasion.
If you prefer real glassware, you or the venue can arrange it. Agree on the quantities, washing or collection arrangements and any poolside restrictions. Package drinkware is plastic glassware; images of stemware are illustrations, not a promise of included rentals.
When bartender-only service makes sense
Choose bartender-only service when the venue has a suitable work area and you have someone to organize the beverages and supplies. It can suit a short office reception or a private party where the host already has the equipment.
A counter alone is not a complete bar. Check space for the bartender, drink preparation, cold storage and backup supplies, as well as a clear route for guests. R.E. and Sons Landscaping’s guide to backyard bar layout and materials offers general design context for an existing backyard counter; it is not a BeeHive equipment specification or a local contractor recommendation.
Before booking, turn the mobile bartending supplies checklist into a list with a named person responsible for each client-supplied item. Decide who brings it, where it will be stored and when it must be ready. The bartender should not arrive to discover that ice is still at the store.
When a mobile-bar package is the better fit
A package is useful when you want the bar station and the listed supporting supplies arranged together. You still buy the alcohol, but there are fewer separate bar items for you to source.
For example, a backyard birthday with 60 guests may fit Bronze’s guest guidance. A 100-guest reception may fit Silver. A larger wedding needs an individual staffing and menu discussion rather than an assumption that Gold always means exactly two bartenders.
Think about the busiest moment, too. A reception where everyone orders immediately after a ceremony creates a different workload from a party with staggered arrivals. Shaken cocktails, separate bar locations and long trips to storage can all affect the staffing plan.

Three event examples with useful planning numbers
Keep two counts separate: everyone who will use the bar for staffing, and guests expected to drink alcohol for alcohol inventory. People ordering mocktails or soft drinks still need service.
The examples below use two inventory assumptions from BeeHive’s alcohol calculator: one drink per drinking guest per service hour, or that amount plus one additional drink per drinking guest for the whole event. These are alternative shopping estimates, not consumption targets or guaranteed demand.
| Example | Attendance / drinking guests / hours | Basic inventory estimate | With one extra drink per drinking guest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backyard birthday | 60 / 45 / 3 | 45 × 3 = 135 drinks | 45 × 4 = 180 drinks |
| Wedding reception | 140 / 100 / 4 | 100 × 4 = 400 drinks | 100 × 5 = 500 drinks |
| Office reception | 40 / 30 / 2 | 30 × 2 = 60 drinks | 30 × 3 = 90 drinks |
Open BeeHive’s alcohol calculator to build your shopping list. Choose the beer, wine and cocktail split before converting these totals into cases and bottles. Plan mixers, ice, water, alcohol-free drinks and any separate toast alongside the alcohol order. The wedding alcohol planning guide covers wedding-specific decisions.
Match staffing to the full guest count
Assuming one bar serving cocktails and mocktails, BeeHive’s bartender staffing calculator starts with one bartender for the 60-person birthday and three for the 140-person wedding. Above 120 guests, it divides the full guest count by 50 and rounds up: 140 ÷ 50 = 2.8, rounded to three.
For beer, wine and soft drinks, that same 140-person event starts at two bartenders: 140 ÷ 75, rounded up. These are planning baselines. The final proposal should account for the menu, arrival rush, bar locations and venue layout.
The two-hour office reception may suit bartender-only service if the venue counter and client-supplied inventory are ready. A mobile-bar package has a three-hour minimum, even if the reception itself is shorter.
Compare the cost of the same service period
Additional bartender-only service is $75 per hour. Extra package service is $100 per bartender per hour. For a package staffed by three bartenders, one agreed additional full hour is 3 × $100 = $300. That is an extension example, not the full price of the 140-guest wedding.
Confirm the quoted service period, setup and breakdown arrangements, extension approval and billing increments before booking. Our event bartender rates guide provides further labor-budget context. Gratuity is optional and appreciated; tip jars require client and venue approval.
Check the venue before finalizing the bar
Ask the venue about outside bartenders, alcohol restrictions, insurance documentation, permitted serving areas and closing time. Describe whether the event is private or public and whether tickets, donations or alcohol sales are involved. Calling an arrangement dry hire does not settle those requirements.
The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's Type 58 authorization guidance explains event authorizations for eligible licensed caterers. It is not a general permit that every private host needs. ABC's Responsible Beverage Service FAQ also explains the server-training requirements for ABC-licensed catered events. Confirm what applies to your event with the venue and California ABC; this comparison does not establish a booking’s permit status.
Winery rules deserve particular attention. B.R. Cohn’s information on how to celebrate your wedding in wine country is a Sonoma venue example, outside BeeHive’s stated Southern California service area. For a local winery event, check that venue’s own alcohol and vendor policies before choosing the bar service.
Make the working area safe and practical
Protect ice intended for drinks and keep it separate from ice used to chill bottles. The FDA Food Code specifies drinking-water quality for ice used as food or a cooling medium. Use a dedicated scoop, not a drinking glass, and keep the scoop handle clear of the ice.
Follow product storage instructions for mixers and garnishes. For ingredients requiring refrigeration, USDA food-safety guidance recommends cold holding at 40°F or below and discarding perishables left out longer than two hours, or one hour above 90°F. An outdoor display is not a substitute for cold storage.
Confirm access to handwashing, waste disposal and a suitable work area with the venue. Do not assume portable handwash stations or waste bins are supplied by BeeHive. Keep guest activities away from the ordering point: if you use a guest-photo album such as Wedding Studio, place its QR card where people can scan it without blocking the bar.
A practical checklist before booking
| Decision | Who confirms it | When |
|---|---|---|
| Event date, city, guest count and venue’s alcohol rules | Host and venue | Before requesting the final quote |
| Package or bartender-only service, bar surface and staffing | Host and BeeHive | In the proposal |
| Menu, alcohol-free choices and client shopping list | Host and BeeHive | Before buying supplies |
| Alcohol purchase, transport and handoff; other client-supplied items | Host’s named contact | Before setup begins |
| Load-in access, cold storage, handwashing and waste arrangements | Venue, host and BeeHive | Before event day |
| Service start and end, toast timing and any extension | Host or planner and BeeHive | Agreed in advance |
A 25% deposit confirms the booking. Your proposal states the remaining balance and payment deadline. Check that its service hours and responsibilities match the plan you have discussed.
