How Much Do Bartenders Charge for Private Events?
In this guide

How much do bartenders charge for private events? At BeeHive Mobile Bar, bartender-only service starts at $350 with a two-hour minimum, while mobile-bar packages start at $750 with a three-hour minimum. The right comparison depends on your guest count, service hours and how much equipment and preparation you want included.

If your venue already has a suitable bar and the supplies are organized, bartender-only service may be a good fit. If you want the bar, mixers, ice and other listed supplies arranged together, a package gives you a broader service. With either option, you purchase the alcohol separately using our shopping list.

This guide explains BeeHive’s starting prices, what changes the total and how to compare proposals for an Orange County celebration. We can also serve select surrounding areas in Southern California by arrangement; travel fees may apply.

Private event bartender prices at a glance

Providers may quote hourly labor, a fixed service window or a package combining staff and supplies. Ask what the quoted amount covers before comparing it with another company’s rate. The figures below are BeeHive’s published starting points, not a market-wide average or a final event quote.

Service Starting price and minimum Guest and staffing guidance Additional service time
Bartender-only service From $350; two-hour minimum Staffing tailored to your guest count and confirmed in the proposal $75 per additional hour
Bronze package From $750; three-hour minimum Up to 70 guests; one bartender $100 per hour per bartender
Silver package From $1,150; three-hour minimum Up to 120 guests; two bartenders $100 per hour per bartender
Gold package Custom quote; three-hour minimum 120+ guests; two or more bartenders $100 per hour per bartender

Bartender-only is a separate service, not a package. Its optional $150 mobile bar add-on provides the mobile bar only. It does not add mixers, ice, coolers, drinkware, garnishes or other package supplies.

Confirm the exact service window and included hours in your proposal. Minimum booking hours and additional-hour rates do not, by themselves, explain how a partial hour is charged. Ask for that detail before agreeing to an extension.

What is included in the service price?

Bartender-only service includes professional bartending, bar tools, setup and cleanup of the bartending work area, and a shopping list. You arrange the bar or work surface, alcohol, mixers, ice, coolers, drinkware, garnishes and other required supplies, unless the proposal assigns an item differently.

Bronze, Silver and Gold include a portable bar, professional bartending, bar tools, mixers, ice, coolers, plastic glassware, napkins, straws, garnishes, complimentary setup and breakdown, and a custom printed menu. The package differences are:

  • Bronze: two signature cocktails, one bartender, a mobile bar and standard garnishes.

  • Silver: three signature cocktails, two bartenders, a large mobile bar and premium garnishes.

  • Gold: four signature cocktails, two or more bartenders, a custom-styled bar, premium garnishes and presentation, soft drinks and water, and a Refreshment Station.

Soft drinks and water are included in Gold. For other services, confirm them separately; the website lists a $3-per-drink add-on. A package’s cocktail mixers should not be mistaken for an unlimited supply of standalone soft drinks, bottled water or every possible mocktail ingredient.

If your venue supplies glassware, confirm the sizes, quantities, washing and collection arrangements. BeeHive’s standard package inclusion is plastic glassware. Our guide to staffed pour bar services explains the difference between supplying a bartender and arranging the working bar.

Worked examples: compare the same service hours

Suppose you are planning a 40-guest private party with three hours of bar service. Assume BeeHive confirms that one bartender and the starting bartender-only rate suit your menu and location. Here is the service calculation before alcohol, host-supplied items and any separately quoted charges.

Arrangement Calculation Illustrative service amount Still arrange separately
Bartender-only; host or venue provides the bar $350 + one additional hour × $75 $425 Alcohol and required supplies not already provided by the venue
Bartender-only plus mobile bar $350 + $75 + $150 $575 Alcohol, mixers, ice, coolers, drinkware, garnishes and other required supplies
Bronze package, if the proposal confirms $750 for this three-hour event $750 quoted package $750 Alcohol and any separately quoted extras; listed package supplies are included

In this example, the gap between bartender-only with the bar and Bronze is $175. Compare that amount with the cost and effort of arranging the supplies yourself. If the venue already provides them, the separate service may suit you. If you would need to buy, transport and organize them, a package may be more convenient. Neither is automatically the cheaper complete event.

What does an extra hour cost?

For a package staffed by two bartenders, one additional full hour is 2 × $100 = $200. If a Silver proposal confirms a $1,150 base for the agreed service window, adding that hour would bring the service amount to $1,350 before other charges. Confirm availability and the revised end time with BeeHive before extending service.

These examples use full additional hours. They do not assume a partial-hour rounding policy or guarantee a particular event’s quote.

Why private-event bartender quotes vary

Guest count matters, but so does when people order. A reception where everyone arrives together can put more pressure on the bar than an open house with the same attendance spread through the afternoon. Shaken cocktails, several simultaneous bar locations and a long restocking route can also change the staffing plan.

Count everyone who will use the bar, including guests ordering mocktails and soft drinks. Use the bartender staffing calculator for an initial estimate, then confirm the team against your menu, venue layout and busiest service period.

Service time is only part of the work. Planning, setting up the bar and packing it away also take time. Agree on arrival and departure arrangements rather than assuming every event requires exactly an hour of setup and an hour of cleanup. BeeHive includes setup and cleanup within the stated service scope; confirm the details in the proposal.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median bartender wage of $16.51 per hour in May 2025. That employment statistic is not a private-event service rate. An event quote covers the agreed staffing, preparation, equipment and business costs, so multiplying an employee wage by the hours guests see the bar open will not produce a comparable quote.

Tools that track restaurant labor costs show how staffing schedules affect an operating budget. For a private event, the useful comparison is the complete service scope and price, with the same hours and inclusions in each proposal.

Budget for alcohol and optional additions separately

BeeHive provides dry-hire service. You purchase and provide the alcohol; we help with a shopping list. We do not purchase or deliver alcohol. California’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control explains the distinction between paid bartending services and alcohol sales, including the restriction on buying alcohol for reimbursement or collecting and delivering a prepaid alcohol order.

Check your venue’s alcohol policy before booking. Our guide to the difference between wet and dry hire explains how alcohol responsibility affects a comparison. Venue-based offerings can use different billing models; for example, these bar options for Quad Cities weddings discuss hosted, consumption and other arrangements. Those are comparison examples, not BeeHive’s services or California pricing.

Use BeeHive’s alcohol calculator to build your shopping estimate. Enter the total guest count and the number who may drink alcohol separately, then set the service hours and drink mix. The results already reflect that mix; do not split the resulting bottle quantities by those percentages again. Plan water and alcohol-free drinks for the people attending, including those who are not drinking alcohol.

Other additions to consider are:

  • Refreshment Station: from $125 for four gallons, approximately 45 guests, with additional gallons at $25 each. This self-serve station is included in Gold. Confirm the volume for your attendance and event length.

  • Slushie Machine: from $215 for two gallons of one flavor, approximately 30 guests, with additional gallons at $45 each. A second flavor requires a second machine station. You provide any alcohol.

  • Travel or venue-specific needs: confirm any applicable fees and responsibilities in the proposal.

A practical checklist for comparing quotes

Use one list for every provider. Replace general promises such as “everything included” with named items, quantities and times.

Confirm What to record Who confirms it
Service and staffing Guest count, menu, bar locations, bartender count, service start and end Host and bar provider
Setup and breakdown Venue access time, load-in route, setup location and agreed cleanup scope Venue and bar provider
Supplies Each included item; quantities and a named supplier for everything excluded Bar provider, host and venue
Alcohol Final shopping list, purchaser, arrival time, storage and leftover collection Host’s designated contact
Changes and extras Additional-hour rate, partial-hour terms, add-ons and travel fees Bar provider in the proposal
Payment Total, deposit, remaining balance and due date Host and bar provider

A 25% deposit confirms a BeeHive booking and counts toward the agreed total. Your proposal shows the remaining balance and when it is due. For example, a $1,000 agreed total would mean a $250 deposit and a $750 remaining balance, not $1,250 in combined charges. AurenWell’s guide to contractor deposits offers general background on documenting payment terms; BeeHive’s own proposal governs your booking.

Tips are optional and appreciated. Tip jars require client and venue approval. Keep any tip you choose to give separate from the required service total.
